China, The Land Of Opportunity

An issue touched on by this video has been on my mind recently; namely, the fact that the economy of largely authoritarian, non-democratic China is doing well compared to the supposedly "free" markets of the U.S. Zhang Xin's anecdotal impression that many Chinese graduates regard China as having more opportunity, and are coming home after graduating from U.S. business schools, is particularly depressing:

Remember this when a critic of free markets tells you we need less freedom and more government oversight, and that our now-endemic economic sluggishness is the product of too much freedom. When a communist country is regarded as being the land of opportunity compared to the United States, we can officially be said to have lost our way.

Hint: our problem is not the need for more "stimulus", which will only prolong the current recession.
