Ayn Rand Hits A Million In 2012

According to the Ayn Rand Institute, a million of her books sold in 2012, decades after publication and 30 years after her death. Of those, about 10 people understood them. The other 999,990 people continue to repeat what they read on Huffington Post.

PS - This is not a response to any particular reader or comment :)

  1. Funny, no need to be self-deprecating about it!
I only got halfway through the audio version of "The Fountainhead" so maybe I'll give it another shot.

I do wonder how the numbers between Rand, L. Ron Hubbard, and Joseph Smith stack up against each other.

  2. Mike - Not self-deprecating, just bringing up one of my pet peeves, which is the low reading comprehension percentage. I'm always astonished at how many people claim to read the material and end up thinking that Rand is advocating the polar opposite of what she actually was. This usually happens with regard to ethics, and her use of the word "selfish", which is a very loaded term.

But that's a subject for another, longer post.

Anything that purports to offer a sweeping world view and moral sanction will get readers. You left out the teachings of The Flying Spaghetti Monster.
