Video - Freeway-ish Second Flatiron By AK & JG

Speed scrambling in the Flatirons by Anton Krupicka (runner) and Joe Grant (cameraman).

To some extent this is the Freeway route I was doing every week in the fall, often multiple times in a row. The bottom part is 4th class, the remainder appears to be 2nd and 3rd class; it's hard to tell with Tony being so confident. I watched his line with interest, since he climbs the initial hand crack bulge from the right, whereas I go up the middle and it's somewhat uncomfortable and exposed. Later it looks like he's ascending to the right of the main ridge, which I've never done, and the climb does not seem to end at the exit onto the hiking trail, but farther north. I may have to try that.

The speed is impressive, considering this is 800 feet on 45° rock. Tony does this in about 8 minutes, me, in about 14. The fastest times are roughly 6 minutes. This rock is a blast.

  1. You should come up for a Minions race next year. Those guys are nuts.

  2. Will do that some time. If they had a children's division that only did Freeway, I could participate :)
